Event Details

#1000Flowers owes its name to Clay Shirky's famed line: 'Where once there was newspapers, let 1000 flowers bloom...

As everyone struggles to reconcile the commercial challenges delivered by the digital revolution with the clear and accepted need for plurality within the local news market-place, what's next? What do we *actually* know works? What *might* work?

If Google ceo Eric Schmidt thinks the future is mobile, what does that mean? Where does mobile fit with 'Local TV'? Indeed, are we talking about 'TV' at all? Are we moving towards a video 'service' ahead of a TV 'station'? Does our very language need to change to reflect this new landscape?

#1000Flowers aims to bring together some of the brightest and the best thinkers and doers in this local space... to find inspiration amongst those who look at the world from the bottom up and not the top down.

'The book deals with... the attempts of various groups of the common people to impose their own solutions to the problems of their time...'

Christopher Hill, The World Turned Upside Down.

Radical Ideas During The English Revolution

Armed with new tools and fresh ideas as to what 'Local TV' might actually look like in this Age of iPhone, tablet and wifi network, what if the answer to The Shott Report and Jeremy Hunt's quest for 80 'city TV' stations lies with the people? What if the likes of MyCornwallTV, WitneyTV, WeymouthTV... are already doing it for themselves?
